SMART Recovery Programs
Delivering inclusive, evidence-informed addiction recovery programs across the United States and Canada
The 4-Point Program
SMART Recovery’s 4-Point Program is the organization’s flagship secular program serving those with addictive behaviors, including both substance and activity/process addictions. Trained volunteer facilitators lead effective mutual support group discussions on these topics:
- Building and maintaining motivation
- Coping with urges and cravings
- Managing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors
- Living a balanced life
Related tools consistent with evidence-based motivational and cognitive behavioral theories are also offered and discussed.

Family & Friends
SMART Recovery Family & Friends is a secular mutual support program for family and friends of individuals with addictive behaviors. The program is based on the tools of SMART Recovery and Community Reinforcement Approach & Family Training (CRAFT). Studies have shown that CRAFT results in a significantly higher rate of treatment entry for Loved Ones than Al-Anon or Johnson Intervention. At our meetings, trained volunteer facilitators address specific issues encountered by family and friends of those with addictive behaviors. Tools consistent with evidence-based motivational and cognitive behavioral theories are also offered and discussed.
InsideOut
The SMART InsideOut program is designed specifically to help people currently involved in the criminal justice system. The training is designed for Facilitators who work in the justice system and already have their SMART Facilitator qualification.

Military, Veterans & First Responders
There are SMART meetings specifically for Military, Veterans and First Responders. These focused meetings help people and their families to work through the powerful anxieties which can lead to unhealthy coping behaviors including self-medication with alcohol or drugs, or engaging in risky behaviors that can compound problems.
Youth & Teens
Thare are SMART meetings specifically for teenagers, targeted at supporting youth through their transition to adulthood. The program aims to address problematic behavior, helps build self-esteem, and encourages participants to take responsibility, make decisions and come up with their own solutions.

LGBTQIA+
SMART LGBTQIA+ meetings have a range of facilitators from diverse genders and sexualities trained at creating a truly inclusive experience for the community. These meetings provide a private and safe space to share experiences and learn from supportive peers.
