Empowered Recovery Month: SMART’s Celebration of National Recovery Month
This September, SMART Recovery is celebrating Empowered Recovery Month during National Recovery Month. We are excited to raise our voices alongside the millions of people, families, and communities who affirm that recovery is not just possible but probable with the right support.
Empowered Recovery Month is our chance to spotlight what makes SMART different while honoring every pathway that one might find helpful, including other mutual support groups, treatment, faith communities, or a path all their own. Bottom line: We’re celebrating the courage it takes to choose a path of change.
At the heart of Empowered Recovery Month is the approach that makes SMART Recovery unique: a science-based, secular, stigma-free program grounded in cognitive behavioral approaches to behavior change. We believe recovery isn't something that happens to you - it's something you build, one tool, one skill, one decision at a time. That's what self-empowered recovery means to us: trusting people with the knowledge and tools to become their own agents of change, free from labels, free from judgment, and full of hope.
We want this month to be loud with your voices, not just ours. Get involved by emailing support@smartrecovery.org and sending us photos from your SMART meetings and events, sharing what empowered recovery means to you in your own words, or volunteering to help carry this message to someone who needs to hear it. All month long, we'll be highlighting the everyday impact SMART Recovery is making in communities everywhere through our various materials, outreach efforts, facilitator training, volunteer activities, and national conference.
Join us in celebrating Empowered Recovery Month . Be a part of our movement as we show the world what self-empowered recovery looks like!
